PRELIMINARY DESIGN

SCHEMATIC DESIGN 1

trellis model

The concept of the Solar Trellis is meant to allow the user to adapt solar technology to fit existing homes. The advantages of this design fall primarily in the detailing and simplicity of construction on site. The entire weatherproof housing unit can be shipped complete and the Solar Trellis can then be erected on site around the unit.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN 2

smart bent
dumb wall

These schemes utilize a "smart bent system" that combines all the standard house utilities into one unit. Heating, cooling, dehumidification, electrical, plumbing and communication are housed in the same easy access area. Since all the systems work together and are customizable it allows one to easily add onto the house because the bent that is added to support the addition also contains the mechanical systems necessary for the addition.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN 3

wall section

A load bearing 6" wall, in conjunction with the interior storage piping area, house the electric and plumbing. The Tech Wall is used for storage of batteries and the service can be concealed with the decking around the house. A butterfly roof acts as a shading device and the trough/gutter is sloped to the west where a grey water collection tank is located. The overhang can be changed to be louvered or even operable.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN 4

compost wall
TE device

This exploration involves the development of a solar wall that includes additional PV cells, hot water collection and storage, battery storage, and bio mass. The concept seeks to add PV technology as a stand-alone "fence" like structure that can augment the energy needs of any existing house. It also looks into innovative methods to incorporate thermo electric heating/cooling.
